After the criticizing statement made by Evan Spiegel about Snapchat, people responded and expressed their feelings in different ways. And now, it is Mark Zuckerberg who has been seen commenting on this incident.
It all started when Evan Spiegel mentioned in one of its press meetings that Snapchat is made for rich people. It is not intended for poor countries like India and Spain. This statement turned out to be a curse for the company. People all over India uninstalled the app and gave it poor feedback. This resulted in dropping down of the rating of the app to one star from four stars. Moreover, the shares of the company dropped by 1.8% giving a loss of $3.4 Million.
While people were uninstalling the Snapchat app due to this criticizing statement, Mark Zuckerberg made clear that his apps are for everyone. He said that Facebook and other apps owned by the company are not meant for certain people. They are made and designed for each and everyone.
This statement by Mark has indeed given the air to the fire that was caught by Snapchat itself. This not only made the users to hate Snapchat even more than before, but it also resulted in the promotion of the app.
People all over the country are expressing their views. The app was also trolled on Twitter. #boycottsnapchat became the most trending hashtag on Twitter overnight.
“I haven’t seen any Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians etc Tweets yet. Thanks @Snapchat for uniting us,” a user tweeted.
Some users even flagged the app for hateful content and left a message, “Dear @snapchatsupport, flagged you for hateful content. #boycottsnapchat”. Snapchat has more than 4 Million users in India.
This also affected the Facebook-owned Instagram. The crowd shifted towards Instagram after uninstalling Snapchat. The user base of Instagram rose by 50 Million and settled on 210 Million, increasing the profit chart of the app simultaneously.
Well, let us see as to how much more it is going to cost Snapchat due to the criticizing statement made by its CEO. For now, other rivals are taking advantage of this situation.
